Making of kailasa yantra
Kailasa Yantra is made of 365 or 1116 mini siva lingas to form shape of siva linga surrounded by medha dakshinamurthy and all the siva ganas those who stay on kailasa mountain. Just as reference to that mountain this Kailasa Yantra is prepared.
Kailasa Yantra puja process
There will be 11 or 16 avaranas in the kailasa yantra. deities reciding in each avarana are invoked, puja will be done for them followed by other avaranas. Finally the total yantra is invoked and puja is done.
Later the abhishekam is done for siva lingas. Alankaram is done and finally puja with ashtottara and several siva and sakthi names is done.

When is this puja performed

On the month of karthika masam, this puja is organised every day with 365 mrutthika lingas. On these days priest prepares siva lingas with mud, do puja, abhisheka and alankaram on the yantra.
On the special days like Maha siva ratri and Karthika Pournami (Full moon day of Karthika masam) yantra is made with 1116 siva lingas containing 16 avaranas. This yantra is called as Maha Kailasa Yantra.
